Design & Injection Moulding: REGA Bias Housing Case Study
Project type: Design Moulding, Injection Moulding and Stock Holding
Time frame: 8 Weeks
Overview: REGA wanted to modernise the look of the current bias housing moulding that works in conjunction with the RB110 tonearm for the PLANAR 1 Turntable.
The Process
REGA supplied a CAD file of the component and our design team worked alongside REGA to create a solution; improving the rigidity of the bias housing and therefore increasing the performance and sound quality. The entire project took 8 weeks in total.
The Solution
The original moulding was made up of 3 individual components and with design modification from the team at Alplas the new revised tooling now consists of 2 parts, reducing the moulding cost and injection moulding cycle time.
The tooling engineers at Alplas discussed improving the wall section of the new component as the previous moulding was over sized and was manufactured from a standard polypropylene material; it didn’t have the strength and integrity of the new glass filled nylon.
